Fourth of July
We went to a friend's house for the holiday. We were invited to come and swim, and socialize. We met their sons and their families and another friend of their family was there. Lots of kids for our kids to play with, and even though it was rainy and cool, the kids all went swimming. They have a beautiful home, set back from the street, amongst the trees, with a wrap-around porch and a screened-in section as well. We had hamburgers and hotdogs and salads and chips and other snacks and we got to know some new people and they hopefully got to know us a little better. Darlene and Joel have lots of property, on which they have a large garden where they grow squash, dill, fig trees, wild blackberries, blueberries, cucumbers, etc. She hasn't been able to pick her blueberries for a few weeks, so today she gave us some pails and a few of us went down to help. There were tons! I think there were three pails and we filled up one to the top, and filled the others about half full. I don't particualarly like blueberries, but everyone else in my house loves them, so Savannah and I were picking and picking blueberries. She was eating most of them of course, but there were so many, it didn't matter. There was another little boy, Dominic who was about her age that also ate everything he picked. Darlene showed us other areas of her property, there's a place to go conoeing, and a place where the boy scouts come to have their campouts. We saw a large brown bunny with a white tail. I saw a daddy long legs that had wayyyyyy longer legs than any daddy long leg spider I have ever seen. It grew dark because the clouds were moving and then we heard thunder, so we knew it was going to start raining again. Pretty soon you could see a wall of big drops of rain off in the trees and it was moving closer with each second, so we started running for the house! It caught up with us, but we didn't get too wet, except our feet from sloshing in the grass. Everything is so wet here because of this incessant rain, grass is spongy and sloshy, trees are uprooting everywhere. We brough home a huge bag of berries, some fresh dill and basil and cucumbers. Hopefully this rain will stop so everyone can have some fireworks, but at the same time, I really like it!
