It turns out that each of our children are named after towns in states in which we have lived, so we made it a goal to go to each of their namesake cities and take a picture with them with a city sign.
The day before the trip, Savannah developed stomach flu symptoms and pink eye. Angela and I quickly developed similar stomach flu symptoms. We decided to go anyways, despite all of us battling various illnesses.
We rented a great home through Vacation Rental by Owner (vbro.com). It was a quick one block walk from the beach and a few blocks from the only grocery store in the cute little town. So we stocked up on groceries and ended up making quite a few of our meals in the house. The house had two floors, each with bedrooms, so the boys took the ground level and Ang, Savvy and I took the upper floor. The boys loved having their own floor with its own bathroom and living room complete with a TV.
Savannah saw something on TV about crab legs and had been asking for them for several weeks, so we went to a seafood restaurant and ordered some as an appetizer. She couldn't get enough! It completely shocked us. When we didn't order her crab legs the next day at a burger place, she decided to take it into her own hands and ask the waitress for them. The waitress chuckled and told Savannah that they don't serve them. Disappointed, she decided to settle for their food.
We toured one of the oldest and best kept lighthouses in the country, the lighthouse keepers residence, and an old military fort. They even allowed you to climb all 148 steps to the top of the lighthouse. Tucker loved the view and wasn't phased at all by the heights.
We took a quick tour through Savannah, but the kids had already had enough history by that point. They just wanted to get back to the beach.
Needless to say, we spent a lot of our time playing on the beach. It was the first Atlantic beach any of us had played in. From the very first view, it was exactly like Atlantic beaches are pictured, with the small plant covered dunes, which lead you to the fine white sanded beach. We saw a pod of about six or seven dolphins swim by, quite a few birds and some jellyfish that had washed ashore.
It's definitely one of those places that you want to return for a quick relaxing trip.
