Bodie, California - Walking through a Ghost town

Bodie was founded in the 1860s, after W.S. Bodey discovered gold here. It became a booming mining town through the late 1870s, but that quickly died down by the early 1880s.

The town didn't instantly become a ghost town though; people continued to live there through the 40s and 50s.

That's why you can see things in Bodie that are from the 1880s, the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s.

A cool way to see how the town's population changed from beginning to end. Each picture is taken from the same place in a different time period.

View of a firehouse that was built in the late 1930s after a bad fire that burned most of the town.

The Methodist Church was built in the 1880s

A lot of the homes had metal siding

Most of Bodie is looking in through windows

looking in through the schoolhouse windows

looking in through the morgue windows, things looked a little staged

You can tell Savannah is done.
